My good friend Bill Glazer always says that ‘in business, the only difference between the super successful and the poor is implementation.’

So, if that’s true (and it is!) why do so many of us find it so hard to get stuff done?

Well I thought about this article for a while, I started it a few times but couldn’t really put my finger on it…

So I thought some more and asked some colleagues what they thought and then I vowed to get it finished by tomorrow night.

And that was when I realised how to cope with my demons and ‘get stuff done’.

It’s all about deadlines.

You see, what is it to procrastinate? Wasting time. Postponing actions. Delaying tactics. Convincing ourselves that we’re doing work when in truth we’re not ( see two paragraphs above). Call it what you will but it’s getting in the way of success – and its making you poor.

The truth is that procrastination IS the disease of the poor. It is the affliction of the dreamers and the wannabe’s and if you’r egoing to achieve your goals and dreams, in business, then you have to slay this bastard and find a way to get shit done

And the way to do that is both amazingly simple and incredibly difficult. But crack this and the progress you’ll make will astound you. You’ll achieve more in 12 months than you’ve achieved in 12 years.

Are you ready?

Deadlines.

The strictest most tightest deadlines ever.

You see, when I vowed to get this article finished by tonight I gave myslef a deadline and I go it done. But not just any old deadline. The work will always expand to fill the space so deadlines that are 2 or 3 weeks away are not much better than useless.

To conquer this baby and make this happens you need to operate in a world of tight deadlines – and this is one of the biggest and most powerful secrest under-pinning almost all my business success. I set very stretching, very demanding deadlines – and we hardly ever miss. As a result, we get a heck of lot of stuff done – way more than most people or businesses – which is why we have more success.

I’m sorry if that’s not as earth shattering as you were hoping. But it’s the truth.

Deadlines stricter than a 1950’s school mistress are the key to your future life of wealth and happiness. The sooner you get your head round that, the sooner you’ll be part of ‘our gang’ – the doers and achievers. And t be clear, once your in the gang, the deadlines don’t go away. Because we have to fight this affliction every single day.  Procrastination makes you poor. Getting stuff done makes your rich. End of.
