Who is Nigel Botterill, and why is he writing to me?
I’m the founder and Chief Executive of N5 Ltd, the UK’s most successful Franchisor and work-from-home info-marketer. For my sins, I’m a serial Entrepreneur. I’ve launched 5 successful brands in as many years, and I still manage 4 day-to-day. They’re thebestof, Explosive Marketing, My Mag and My Little Wrapper. I’m proud to say that each one of these brands is a million-pound business in its own right.
I know what you have to do to build a £million+ business… because I’ve done it. Five times.
I waved goodbye to my corporate life (and my secure salary!) in 2003 and started ‘N5 Ltd’ from my back bedroom as a Marketing Consultancy. I launched my first product, My Mag just a few months later. It was a runaway success, becoming my first million-pound brand within 12 months and meaning I needed to get a proper office and become an employer too.
Although it’s had its ups and downs (can you name me a business that hasn’t!) N5 Ltd has been a big success. It’s given me the freedom and security to live the life I want to lead, and to give my family (four children, one gorgeous wife and Monty, my beloved miniature schnauzer!) the lifestyle that they deserve.
In addition, our acheviements have been recognised with some of the most prestigious Awards available to British businesses.
In short, since setting up on my own 7 years ago, I’ve never looked back, and I’m still hugely passionate about my business – probably now more than ever – just ask my team, which has grown a bit since 2003… I’ve got 32 staff on my payroll this month.
I regularly get asked what’s enabled me to create the freedom and success that I enjoy.
Too many businesses fail (some quicker than others), many more business owners and entrepreneurs work 50, 60 or 70 hour weeks for years on end, without ever achieving the success that they went into business for.
What is it that separates successful and profitable businesses from losers and also-rans?
There’s only one answer to that question in my mind: my single biggest advantage over most business owners has been my steadfast devotion to learning from the very best, wherever and whoever they might be.
I’m a committed and constant student of success. Scrutinizing success in it’s many forms, and analyzing it endlessly. As I write this letter, I’ve spent £144,167 on books, manuals, info-products, online courses, summits, mastermind-groups, boot camps, conferences and seminars. I’ve earned many thousands of air miles searching for the very best; and committed hours, days and weeks to absorbing, understanding and -crucially- implementing everything I’ve learned. That commitment to learning and replicating success is the key difference between me, and a typical business owner.
Most business owners don’t make this type of commitment and most business owners don’t enjoy the success that they set out to.
Coincidence? I don’t think so.
I talk to hundreds of business owners each year, as well as working closely with hundreds of my own franchisees, and there is a strong correlation between their commitment to finding and following proven success strategies and their eventual success.
There’s no big secret here. If something is working well for someone else, there’s a very good chance that it’s going to work for you too; that’s the shortcut to success.
As with any subject, there is a science to business. Just as you’re unlikely to get top marks in an exam without studying, you’re unlikely to become highly successful without spending some time learning what other successful people have done.
